There Is More Than One Way How To Stop On A Skateboard
There are many different ways to stop on a skateboard. Some methods for stopping on a skateboard are definitely better for certain situations than others and some techniques for stopping may require a higher skill level. We are going to break down here the easier and harder ways to stop on a skateboard.
Easy Ways To Stop On A Skateboard
The easiest way to stop on a skateboard is to jump and run off, ditching your board and slowing yourself down by jogging it out. At a certain speed this is not feasible but if you are athletic enough, you should be able to stop by jumping and running off your skateboard. Another relatively easy way to stop on your skateboard is by foot braking. This is when you use your pushing foot to slow down by gently brushing it against the pavement rather than pushing. It is important that you ease into a foot brake, gradually applying more pressure. And beware that it will wear down the sole of your shoe.
Intermediate And Advanced Ways To Stop On A Skateboard
Tail scraping is something you should definitely avoid, but by combining the foot brake with a tail scrape, you can pull off an intermediate technique of stopping on a skateboard. This is by using your heel to slow down as you would with a foot brake while in a manual position. This is like tail scraping, except the pressure is on your shoe, wearing down your sole instead of your board. Last, the most advanced way to stop on a skateboard is by doing a powerslide. This is when you break traction with your wheels by kicking out and sliding at under a 90 degree angle. This is a very fun way to stop but can be difficult to learn.
